Crafting natural, healthy, beautiful, and long-lasting smiles

Cosmetic dentistry is a specialized branch of dentistry that focuses on enhancing the beauty of the smile and correcting imperfections of the teeth and gums to create a more confident, harmonious appearance. At Tam Nhu Dental Clinic, we believe the beauty of a smile begins with a strong foundation of oral health—when your teeth are healthy, your smile is truly long-lasting.

Guided by the philosophy of personalized care, minimally invasive dentistry, and long-term stability, each patient receives an individualized smile design that harmonizes tooth morphology, the smile line, and overall facial proportions.

Cosmetic dentistry corrects a wide range of dental concerns.

Cosmetic dentistry

Below are conditions commonly indicated for cosmetic dental treatment:

Tooth discoloration or unaesthetic surface appearance:

This includes teeth that are stained, yellowed, uneven in color, or intrinsically discolored due to tetracycline staining or dental fluorosis. In some cases, enamel wear/erosion and surface roughness can also be effectively improved with professional teeth whitening, porcelain (ceramic) veneers, or aesthetic porcelain crowns.

Minor discrepancies in tooth morphology or position

Applicable to cases with diastema/spacing, mild malalignment or slight rotations, or teeth with disproportionate size and shape. The clinician will evaluate and select an appropriate form-correction approach—such as ceramic (porcelain) veneers or all-ceramic restorations (e.g., crowns)—to achieve natural, harmonious proportions.

Teeth damaged by trauma or wear

Cases involving chipped teeth, incisal edge wear, or minor cracks/fractures can be managed with aesthetic restorations to re-establish the tooth’s form, function, and durability.

Gingival conditions affecting smile aesthetics

These include gummy smile (excessive gingival display), asymmetric gingival margins, gingival hyperpigmentation, or tooth–gingiva disharmony. Gingival recontouring/gingivoplasty, smile-line adjustment (e.g., crown lengthening or orthodontic leveling), and gingival depigmentation can help achieve a more harmonious, radiant smile.

Chairside preview (direct composite mock-up):

Proposed treatment options:

Plan 1: Orthodontic treatment to close the spaces

Advantages: Maximally conserves tooth structure; addresses the underlying cause of spacing/occlusion; offers long-term stability.

Limitations: Requires time and patient compliance; aesthetics are not immediate—may still need additive bonding or ultrathin veneers to refine tooth shape after orthodontics.

Plan 2: Porcelain veneers

Advantages: High aesthetics, fast results, more conservative than full-coverage crowns.

Limitations: Requires enamel reduction/tooth preparation.

Chairside preview (direct composite mock-up):

To help the patient visualize the expected outcome before definitive treatment, the cosmetic specialist at Tâm Như Dental performed a direct composite mock-up by adding a thin, removable layer of composite onto the natural teeth without any tooth preparation. This provides a real-time preview of tooth form, proportions, and the smile line before making a final decision—without the need for 3D digital simulation—allowing the patient to better understand the result and feel more confident about treatment.

2) Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are ultrathin ceramic shells (approximately 0.2–0.5 mm) bonded to the front (labial) surfaces of teeth to improve color, shape, and uniformity while maximally preserving enamel.

Indications: suitable for teeth with discoloration/intrinsic staining, minor chips, diastema/spacing, or slight malalignment—delivering a natural bite and long-term durability with proper care.

Contraindications: not appropriate in cases of extensive caries, untreated periodontitis, severe malocclusion, or uncontrolled bruxism.

Veneer

Customer: Ms. Chúc Ly — 34 years old

Initial presentation:

Tooth 21 (maxillary left central incisor): previously root-treated and restored with a metal-ceramic (PFM) crown, resulting in a dark/gray gingival margin.

Anterior region: tetracycline intrinsic discoloration with mottled, non-uniform shade, compromising smile aesthetics.

Treatment plan:

Endodontic retreatment of tooth 21, then restoration with a LiSi all-ceramic crown (GC, Japan).

Tetracycline-stained anterior teeth: porcelain veneers to mask discoloration and enhance color, aesthetics, and function with minimal invasiveness.

Outcome:

Tooth 21 successfully retreated and restored with a LiSi all-ceramic crown; gingival dark line resolved and shade matched to adjacent teeth.

Porcelain veneers effectively masked tetracycline staining, achieving harmonized tooth color and an improved, confident smile.

3) Teeth Whitening with the BEYOND™ System

BEYOND is a cold-light, in-office whitening system that uses optical filters to remove UV/IR wavelengths, limiting heat and reducing sensitivity. Combined with a neutral-pH hydrogen peroxide gel, it brightens enamel safely in 45–60 minutes while protecting gingival tissues and the dental pulp.

Notes on effectiveness

Results depend on baseline discoloration, tooth type, and individual response.
In severe tetracycline or fluorosis cases, shade can improve but may not reach a pure white.
Restorations (crowns, veneers, composite fillings) do not change color with whitening.

Not recommended if

You have active caries, cervical wear/erosion, dentin hypersensitivity, or untreated periodontal disease.
You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You are under 16 years old (teeth and pulp are more sensitive).

After-care

Follow a “white diet” for 24–48 hours: avoid dark-colored foods/drinks (coffee, tea, red wine, colored sodas) and tobacco to maintain results.
Maintain proper oral hygiene and schedule 6-monthly checkups to monitor enamel and longevity of whitening outcomes.
